The Monroe County Jail is currently classified as a 12 day holding facility by the Ohio Bureau of Adult Detention. We currently house male misdemeanor offenders up to twelve days at a time. Should an offender be sentenced to a term of more than twelve days, Ohio law requires us to transfer the inmate to another facility for a period of 24 hours. At that time the offender can be transferred back into our facility for another 12 day term. Inmate meals are provided three times a day through an agreement with the Monroe County Care Center.
Felony offenders are not permitted to be housed in our facility. We currently have housing contracts with surrounding facilities to house felony inmates and female inmates.
Inmate visitations are permitted Monday through Friday between 8am and 4pm. Visitation schedules can be arranged by contacting Deputy Mark Hayes or Deputy Cara Popadak at 740.472.1612
Plans are underway to move this facility from a 12 day holding facility back to a full service jail. We hope to reach this goal by January 2010. Other plans underway are to initiate a "pay-to-stay" policy. Inmates will be required to reimburse the County of Monroe for the costs incurred while they are incarcerated. These costs include a variable rate based on income, medical expenses, etc. This will generate a savings to the county and allow the allocated budget to be utilized in a more efficient way improving the services provided by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
